Verandah was voted Community of the year in 2005. Nearly 65% of the community is reserved for open space including preserves, parks, lakes, golf and a buffer along the Orange River. The boathouse lets residents launch scenic canoe or kayak trips on the picturesque Orange River. The private Robert Cupp designed Old Orange Course plays 7,118 yards, par 76. Jack Nicklaus and Jack Nicklaus II have designed the second 18-hole championship golf course at Verandah, the Whispering Oak, which opened in January of 2007. Located on State Road 80 east of I-75.
